Spay & Neuter Services
TNR - Field Services
Shadow Cats TNR operates a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program that is funded by private donations and a grant from the Maryland Department of Agriculture. TNR is the humane approach to controlling the outdoor cat population. Community cats are trapped in humane box traps, taken to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated for Rabies and Distemper, and ear tipped. Once the cat has had time to recover from surgery, we then return them to the area where they were trapped.
We are unable to relocate community cats. For more information about the ineffectiveness of relocation, please see here.

Pet Spay/Neuter Program
Shadow Cats TNR provides pet owners with access to low cost spay/neuter services, through partnerships with local veterinary offices.
****Unfortunately we have to temporarily suspend our free spay/neuter program due to lack of funds available in our Omni Fund. Donations made towards our Omni Fund are greatly appreciated.
Low Cost Clinic Services include spay/neuter of your cat and vaccination for Rabies and Distemper. Additional services offered include microchip implant and FeLV/FIV (combo) testing for an additional charge, and upon request.
Kittens/Cats must be at least 3 months old, and weigh at least 3lbs in order to apply for spay/neuter of your kitten/cat.

What is FIV and how does an FIV+ diagnosis affect cats?
FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and often causes a weakened immune system in cats. It is sometimes referred to as “Feline AIDS”, however it is important to note that FIV cannot be transmitted to other species such as dogs or humans. FIV+ cats can live long and happy lives and can safely live in a home with FIV- cats. For more information about an FIV+ diagnosis, Best Friends Animal Society has helpful information.
