Kitten Season is Officially Here (Although it never really left)

Did you know when you adopt a cat, you actually save two cats? Adopting a cat opens your home to your adopted fur baby and also opens a space for another cat to be fostered for adoption. Here are some of the cuties awaiting their FURever homes…

Nyla

Female, 11 lbs, 9 yrs

I'm a girl boss and I know what I like. Simple pleasures such as a full bowl of dry food and a warm, soft bed, hanging out with my favorite humans and spending time together, are some of my favorite things.

I love to lie on my bed and watch the world go by. I have nothing but love to give. I'm so sweet and I really like getting pets. More butt and chin scritches please! I much prefer humans over other furry beings (sorry not sorry), so I want to be the one reigning queen in your home. I look forward to being the only fuzzball to offer all the affections to a forever family.

Professor Sheldon

Male, 12lbs, 5 yrs

I'm Professor Sheldon Cooper, and not long ago I got fired from my job as a working cat at Goucher College. Apparently I just wasn't cut out for a barn position, so they sent me back. Now that I'm out of work for good, I'm looking for a permanent place for my early retirement. I'm a nice dude and a big chill guy, everyone says I'm a sweetheart lovebug and should've been a beloved indoor pet to begin with.

Professor Sheldon is a stoic young man who will sit and stare at you like he’s trying to read your mind. He seeks out human attention by rubbing up against you, giving you a little twitter, then will begin to purr as you pet him. He will hang out in your lap to get all the love he wants and when he’s done simply goes on his way.

He would do best in a quieter home with no young children so he can relax and enjoy his retirement!

Boots

Male, 5lbs, 7 mos

Meet Boots! This handsome boy is the perfect blend of curiosity and calm. He’s a relaxed, easygoing companion who enjoys exploring his surroundings at his own pace, always taking everything in with quiet interest.

Boots absolutely loves attention—especially chest rubs—and could happily be brushed for hours, soaking up every moment of care. Give him a cozy perch or a tall cat tree, and he’ll claim the high ground, like royalty as he watches the world go by.

Alvin

Meet Alvin, the ringleader of the litter! This charming little guy is full of personality and isn’t shy about making himself known. He’s quite vocal when he wants attention—and trust us, that’s often—especially when it comes to pets and belly rubs.

He’s a friendly, affectionate boy who loves being the center of attention. One of his favorite things is having his sweet little face gently held while he’s being pet, purring happily the whole time. With his adorable looks and big personality, he’s sure to steal your heart in no time.

Pop

Male, 3 yrs

Hi, my name is Pop! Will you be my friend? I was abandoned by my previous owner and I am so thankful for being rescued and now safe with my foster Mom. She just met me, but she already says,

"Pop is super-duper friendly and great with my 7 year old. He's not yet met the resident dog and cat, since he just arrived, but he is very comfortable and loving towards new people. He loves his scratching post, and loves being petted. Pops will walk right up to you for rubs then flop over! Also, Pop is the best biscuit maker! He will knead biscuits for you to get your attention then crawl into your lap to snuggle." Pretty great review for his first day in his foster home! Come meet Pop and fall in love.

Star and Mr. Maple

Remember bonded pair, Star and Mr. Maple?

We are so happy to announce that a few weeks ago, Star and Mr. Maple (now Mr. Flower) found their FURever home together! These two sweethearts were volunteer favorites and loved so much by their foster mom. They waited so patiently to find their PURRfect family and now they have their happily-ever-after!

Sam: A Foster Fail?

Sam was one of our foster cats who decided he wanted to PURRmanently stay where he was with his mom, Holly. We know everyone calls them Foster Fails, but we don’t believe in Foster Fails, we believe in Foster Wins!! Sam looks like he has plenty of new fuzzy friends to cuddle with!

Slip

Slip was an injured TNR return and was nursed back to health and adopted by the daughter of a vet tech who works with one of our partner vets, All Paws. She says, “Slip has been playing all day, using the litter box and eating…he’s doing so good! Also getting along with everyone in the family when they come to pet him. I love him so much!”

Marilyn

We just had to feature Marilyn in our Happy Tails. She is truly living up to her glamorous name. Marilyn loves relaxing on her chaise lounge in the evenings like a glamour-puss. She even has the beauty mark of her namesake. Live your best life, Marilyn!

Ash’s Story

Ash came to Shadow Cats TNR with her sister Daisy. Just as she was coming out of her shell in her new surroundings, Ash began to seem “off” from her usual self. Then she had a seizure. It was due to a high fever, so she was cooled down slowly with fluids and her temperature regulated again. Afterwards, she became more lethargic, then stopped eating and grooming. Putting all of her symptoms together, Ash’s veterinarian suspected FIP (feline infectious peritonitis).

Up until recently, a diagnosis of FIP meant death was guaranteed. But thanks to research and Stokes Pharmacy that's no longer the case. They have made this lifesaving treatment widely available for well over a year now! FIP treatment has an enormous success rate but comes at a high cost.

Ash started treatment for FIP on March 11th.

We had a fundraiser for Ash in March and want to thank each and every one of you for helping us afford the necessary treatment for Ash. THIS is what community support looks like! We met our initial goal of $2000 thanks to all of your support. Any funds raised beyond what she needs will go towards our medical fund for needy cats in the future. Let's face it, we ALWAYS have a cat in need.

Right now, Ash is gaining weight and her foster mom says she’s “still taking her meds like a champ and has been coming out of her condo to mingle with the other fosters. We love seeing her feeling more comfortable and social."

Monthly Adoption Events

We’re also excited to be hosting MONTHLY adoption events at Abingdon PetSmart on the second Saturday of each month from 1-3pm! We had our first one on April 11 and our next will be on May 9. Want to help? It’s just once a month for a few hours! If you want to make a difference by helping people get information about adopting and filling out applications, and maybe help Shadow Cats TNR get a few donations in the process, this is FOR YOU!!

Spring Whisker Wisdom

Do you know what to do if you find a kitten? Taking them from their mom isn’t always the best option, and adoption isn’t always the answer either. Follow this flow chart from Alley Cat Allies for what to do.

Spring time means flowers!

They are all beautiful, but they aren’t all safe. Do you know what flowers are toxic for cats? If you have indoor cats or cats that visit your yard, make sure they don’t have access to any of these spring flowers! Lilies in particular can be fatal, and others can cause severe illness.
