FURever Valentines for Adoption

It’s the month of love and purrs! These bonded pairs are already FURever Valentines and are looking for homes together. Two cats means twice the love and purrs!

Star (10 mos) and Mr. Maple (2 yrs)

Star and Mr. Maple are the ultimate dynamic duo—the yin to each other’s yang. This adorable, bonded pair is rarely seen apart; when one appears, the other is never far behind. They’ve been together since arriving in foster care and have formed a truly
special connection.

Both love to snuggle with each other and with their humans. You’ll often find Mr. Maple relaxing on the sofa by your side while Star happily “makes biscuits” nearby. Affectionate, sweet, and full of charm, these two thrive on love and attention. If you have room in your heart and home for a bonded pair, Star and Mr. Maple are
ready to return that love tenfold.

Lily and Molly (both 1 yr 9 mos)

Lily and her sister Molly grew up together in a foster home where they got used to sharing space with dogs and other cats. Their foster mom says that Molly sleeps on her lap while she works and that the two are “the sweetest house guests!”

While Lily is a little more playful, Molly is content to watch her sister, and then lay down for an extra long nap. Lily loves to chat. The only thing she loves more is getting lots and lots of belly rubs. She usually leads the way while Molly follows behind.

Molly and Lily are bonded and can’t wait to find a forever home where they will play and grow together.

Fred and Ethel (both 7 mos)

Fred is a sweet, gentle lovebug. He is very patient, except for at feeding time when he acts like he hasn’t had a meal for 6 months. He loves to play with his toys and just chill with his sister Ethel. He enjoys playing with laser lights, pouncing toys and feathers on a string pole. He loves a good belly rub and kisses on his head.

Ethel is very sweet and adorable. She is making progress with her social skills and still remains a little skittish around people. At just 7 months old, she has plenty of time to grow out of her shyness. She loves her brother, Fred. You can find her curled up with him all the time. She loves her toys, and she is an expert at hide and seek.

Fred and Ethel easily make friends with other cats and dogs, and will do best in a quiet household without small children.

Lucy (2 yrs) and Zuko (10 mos)

Lucy is an absolute sweetheart who melts for affection and happily soaks up all the attention you can give. Call her name and she’ll come right over, ready to ask—very clearly—for all your love. If you don’t notice her right away, Lucy has no problem hopping up on you to make sure her needs are met! She knows exactly what she wants and isn’t shy about telling you. Lucy is affectionate, confident, and full of charm.

Zuko is a shy boy with a tender heart who truly wants love—he just needs to feel safe first. He approaches affection on his own terms and in his own time, and when he does, it’s incredibly special.

He is rarely far from his best friend Lucy. Wherever she goes, Zuko follows, drawing confidence from her presence and comfort from her encouragement. With patience, kindness, and Lucy by his side, Zuko slowly opens up and shows his sweet, trusting nature.

Zuko is looking for a calm, loving home that understands that gentle reassurance goes a long way. He and Lucy are a bonded pair and are hoping to find their forever home together, where they can continue to feel safe, loved, and cherished.

Melman and Baffi

Remember Melman from our December and January MEWSletter? As a reminder, Melman lost his BFF Merv, when Merv crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Melman was lonely and looking for a new love …enter Baffi! Baffi and Melman became fast friends at the Abingdon PetSmart.

This sweet pair are now officially adopted by their new Cat Mom, Sarah! Sarah says they are fitting in with no issues. She says the cats love her ferrets and Melman was carrying one around like a baby (not aggressively, just playing). Well it’s not every day you see a cat and a ferret cuddled up together! And it looks like Baffi is having fun standing on two legs and showing her belly! Yeah, we’d say these two look comfortable! And this was the same day they were adopted! Looks like they’re going to have a great life together!

Astrid and Birdy

According to Astrid and Birdy’s new dad, Simon, they are doing very well, have put on weight, and they love him. And we know Simon loves them too! Just look at these two cuddly lovebugs! Cozy and happy!

Sandal and Boots

Sandal and Boots’s adopter, Nathan, says, “They’re a wonderful pair. Sandal loves to explore, but Boots is always more curious. He’s always interested and poking his head here and there. They lose their mind for Churu.”

Their awesome Cat Dad even has shelves for them to climb on! These two are living their best lives!

Simon and Tobi

From their Cat Dad, Reed: “They are doing well. They finally feel comfortable. And they have found favorite hang out spots around the house.”

Looks like they’ve got some cool toys to play with, too! What a cute tabby pair!

Send a Valentine

We have more adoptable cats just waiting to meet their PURRfect match! Maybe you’re it! Even if you aren’t looking to adopt, you can still send our foster and community cats a Valentine’s gift! Just a few dollars towards food, treats, litter, and other necessities makes a difference.

Want to go all out and show some big love? Bigger donations help cover vaccines, spay/neuter, and other critical medical care for sick or injured cats. You can also offer to sponsor an adoption fee!

It’s almost here! Our annual fundraiser is just around the corner!

Come kick off Spring with us at this fun event! Tasty appetizers and soft drinks are included in the ticket price. And if you want a beer or wine, just buy it at our cash bar.

There will be all kinds of fun activities, raffles, and prizes! We will also be having some very special guest joining us:

• Valentine’s Valuables will be selling hand-made, unique jewelry and donating proceeds to SCTNR! You can get a preview of her beautiful jewelry at her Valentine’s Event this weekend on Feb. 14, 11-3 at the Rt. 24 Alehouse. Look for our Shadow Cats TNR donation jar there when you stop by!

• Girl Scout Troop #2334 will be joining us as our SCTNR ambassadors! These girls have been busy making cat shelters for our community cats (we’ll have some at the event) and they will be working on more projects with us in the spring!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

(But the work continues…)

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a proven method of humanely managing outdoor cat populations. Spayed/neutered and vaccinated stray and feral cats can live long, healthy lives in the outdoors if TNR is performed.

Shadow Cats TNR is proud to have accomplished Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return of roughly 14,000 community cats from 2016 to 2026. We are able to help the cats despite the cold due to the dedication of caretakers and volunteer trappers, as well as the tremendous support we have from our veterinary partners.

If you are caring for a cat colony, remember that a sheltered spot out of wind and wet is most important during severe cold. Cats can survive without food for several days, and their fur coats keep them warm and dry if they have a safe spot in which to curl up. (But a bit of dry food is appreciated!)
